Sharing Session at Ngee Ann Polytechnic

17th Apr 2019, Capital Gains Studio was invited to Ngee Ann Polytechnic to share with the students from the investment club on how to hold a Wongamania Tournament as well as to clarify some of the more ambiguous card rules.

Wongamania: Banana Economy is a financial literacy game produced by Capital Gains Studio and it covers educational aspect of personal finance, including topics ranging from resource management; budgeting; insurance; investment in various assets classes and the assets’ effects at different stages of the economic cycle.

We shared more details on how we gamify the many aspects of personal finance into the game and how to combine game mechanics with theme and educational objectives. We also shared with the students a prototype of the second edition of Wongamania: Banana Economy and what are some of the changes, along with some of the new rules which can be introduced to the tournament format.

We also brought along a few copies of our latest game - Cryptocurrency as there was a lot of interest on how we can gamify a difficult topic such as Cryptocurrency into a board game. The students certainly enjoyed themselves and we were rewarded with peals of laughter in the room, as they eagerly pitted their wits against one another to calculate the probabilities in order to mine or trade their way to riches. The feedback from them was great; the students enjoyed the game immensely, especially the rumour-mongering part, whereby the suspense is held till the end which cryptocurrency will be the scam coin!

All in all, we had a fun session sharing with students some of our experiences and interacting with them to find out more about their journey to elevate the financial literacy level in their school.

They are the true heroes of the financial literacy movement.
